There are a number of different ways to find out how much your old English coins are worth but probably the worst way would be to take them to a coin or antique dealer. This is because they will want to buy them from you for the lowest possible price that they can so that they can make a profit when they sell them on. If you want to sell your coins, then you really need to know what they are worth before you take them to these dealers.

The first thing you need to do when you want to value your coins is to know exactly what they are. There are lots of internet sites that will help you to identify your coins, and that will give you the many different variables that particular coins may have. For example, (although this example deals with new coins, not old ones) the English two pence coin is only worth its face value, but if you  happen to have a 1983 coin with the words 'new pence' on it, it could be worth £500 because of a mistake in the minting process.

There are also a number of coin collecting books that will help you to identify and value your old English coins. If you have a look at the Amazon site, you will certainly be able to find one that suits you. You may also be able to get books more cheaply here because private sellers sell second hand copies on this site.

EBay is certainly worth taking a look at; you can look at past sales and see the prices that coins have fetched, and so what people are prepared to pay for them.

If you really want a person to look at them, take them to a reputable auction house; they will give you an honest answer.

This is not that difficult a task. In order to determine how much you old English coins are worth you will have to do some research on your own. You could read books that have information about coins and books that tell you how to how to determine values of coins. You could search for information over the internet on the popular search engines. You could even take it to the local antiques shop or the local coin shops and determine the value of coins.

When you are taking your coins, make sure you see that the coins aren't damaged. Things like its cut, shine and clarity are proper. Then you could also see that the mint dates have not been rubbed away. You could even post it on ebay and see how much people are ready to pay for one and sell it accordingly.
