I do not know if it was legal but I went with a guy who hunted bears with a M1 Garand. I think the Bears knew after a while that the *ping* noise meant out of ammo hehe
My Ex Was A BIG Hunter He Used .22 Shotguns.. 30.06 Rifles... Some Guys Use Like Arrows... Because It's Silent... If A Gun Like A 357 Magnum Is Used It's Too Noisy.. .. You Can't Use Tec 19 Because Its An Automatic Gun. You Have To Use Rifles Or Shot Gun Or Arrows...There's A Ridiculous Variety Of Ammo. He Had Over A Dozen Kinds And Sizes. He Had A Federal Firearms License And Would Like Sell Ammo & Guns.. And Was A Gunsmith..
Big hunting means black or brown bears and many kinds of deer. We can use 7mm .306, .308, m1, .22, .222, 3nut3, .50cal, .75cal and .44cal. It basically depends where you are hunting, range & game and trophy or animal.
The .444 is used in bear hunting most bear guides want go out with you if you have anything less. It is a 44 cal. Bullet with a huge charge behind it.
Actually
single shot 22 calibre rifles or if you get into the bigger guns a 410 double action shot gun.
It all depends what weapons you like.

When hunting deer my husband uses a 3-06 Remington. When hunting black bear he used a 300 Winchester. A 12 gauge shotgun is used when dove hunting or duck hunting.
