The two key things that determine the value of any coin, is 1) the mintage.( a coin that minted 25,000 for a particular year is going to be more valuable than one that has a mintage of 2 million)2) the mintmark helps to increase the value of a coin. For instance, an 1876 Morgan silver dollar is worth considerably less than an 1876 Morgan minted in Carson city. Mainly, because of the mintage, and the fact that coins are no longer minted in Carson city.
