Gasherbrum IV is technically the most difficult mountain on Earth, pity that this beauty is not an 8000er. K2 is difficult due to its dramatic ascent, frequent avalanches and the great serac around 8300m. Actually Annapurna 1 is more difficult/deadlier than K2, hence it's the most deadliest mountain on Earth. Ed Viesturs called it his "nemesis". Other extremely difficult ones are Nanga Parbat, Kanchenjunga (highest mountain in India), Manaslu and Dhaulagiri. Dhaulagiri has the only unclimbed face on an 8000er, "The South face of Dhaulagiri-4600 metre vertical ascent" also called the "Impossible face". Who ever climbs it first will be a legend in mountaineering. Only 8000er with an increasing death rate with time is "Kanchenjunga". Btw before the partition around 60 yrs ago, both Karakorams and Hindu Kush were part of India, Pakistan is a new country.

K2 in Pakistan, the worlds second highest mountain, is commonly known as the hardest mountain in the world to climb. This is due to technical difficulty and objective danger combined with its immense height. It attracts the best climbers in the world each year and unfortunately claims many lives including Alison Hargreaves, one of the most promising female climbers of all time. The approach to K2 is also fraught with danger and involves traveling in a currently unstable Pakistan and approaching via the Baltoro Glacier. K2 is in the Karakoram mountain range, the Karakoram's recognized as the world's most rugged and unstable mountains.

While K2 is often regarded as the hardest climb in the world, some experienced mountaineers will point out that there are a number of other peaks that while not as high are actually more difficult. Of these, Gasherbrum 4 is often singled out. It is a 26,000 foot peak (just under 8000 meters by a few meters) that has been climbed very few times and only by extremely accomplished climbers.

In terms of climbing alone there are many harder mountains to climb than K2.  A good example is Gasherbrum IV.

K2 is in Pakistan, not in India as some people have claimed. I know it because I am Pakistani and I have been there myself. As far as I know not even 1 mountain out of tallest 10 in the world is in India, All of them are either in Nepal or Pakistan.

I don't know which is the hardest, by the looks of it, people say K2 is the hardest.

I climbed a 600m mountain and I felt dead!!!! Mountain climbing for smokers is bad for a smoker's health.
