Don't leave anything out and leave them alone for they should be afraid of you, more than you are of them!

However FOOD ever rides all that. I've seen a coon that knew how to open a cooler!

Don't bait them in with Food!
I saw a women feed all the squirrels and they got in her tent and trashed it trying to get out!

I saw a women feeding the birds and her tent, and no one else's, was covered in stuff, from the birds sitting in the tree waiting to get some feed!

Just leave them ALONE!

Camping is one of the most complete recreational activities as not only does it refresh you physically but also mentally with the outdoor air being ideal for sports as well as for relaxation. But care has to be taken as one may have an encounter with the local wildlife which may not be very pleasant.

The most basic precaution that one can take is not to let leftover food items lying around; also all trash should be safely disposed off preferably in a trash bag as its scent might attract wild animals. If one comes face to face with a wild animal especially when cooking or eating one should not try to feed the animals; neither one should try to touch the animal as both these actions may cause the animal to behave unpredictably.

If one comes across an animal in the wild one should back off slowly especially if the animal is with its young. Also keep a flashlight and lantern with you especially after sunset while moving about the campsite. Treat snakes and bees with utmost respect by giving them a wide berth.
