25 if you count the board as a piece.

12 pisces for each color, so 24 in all. I read somewhere that it was 20 checker pieces used internationally. But I doubt it.

24 is correct.  I have checkers in my PC. 12 black, 12 red.

That's a first. I've never been called a piece before. Oh, and what do those pieces sit on? Better change your answer to 29. Pretty soon we'll need a truck to carry the set from one room to another.

I think you'll find the 27 includes a playing surface, which some would call a board. Mind you, you might have to add a table and two chairs, so perhaps we're up to 30! :-)

I've played checkers while sitting on a floor, so that would make it 28, not 29, and if the game was played inside a building, while sitting on the floor, we'd have 29.

Of course, one would need a PLANET for the building to be located on, and that would make it 30, plus the Universe in which one would find the planet, making it 31.
