Just use the following steps:

  • To load a singer sewing machine lift the presser foot so that is no long in contact with the bottom plate. Use the hand wheel to lift the needle to its highest position which will enable you remove the plate in the base and remove the bobbin.
  • Take your new bobbin and pull out a few inches of thread; enough that will allow you to thread it through and pull it to the back of the machine later. Place your new bobbin into the case in the base of the machine.
  • Once the bobbin is in the case, guide the thread through the two notches inside the case.
  • Now pull some of the excess thread towards the back of the machine whilst using the hand-wheel to move the needle up and down till the needle is above the plate and the upper and lower thread are caught.
  • Pull the remaining threads to the back of the machine. Close the side-plate in the base of the machine.

There are several sources online that can instruct you on how load a sewing machine. Try these set of instructions first but if none of it seems to be working or you find that these instructions do not apply to your model then you can try contacting other sewing enthusiasts, some of whom may be able to send you a copy of a manual or upload a video.

There are also several videos on YouTube which is where this information is from. If these instructions aren't clear enough the original video can be found here: http://youtu.be/G2kglC-VFcw.

With older models it is not uncommon that other individuals have had the same problems with their machines. Try visiting forums to get tips and answers on how to get the best from your machine.
