The player salary cap per team (2008) is 116 million per team; this cap is the maximum allotment each team can spend on its roster of players (not coaches, trainers, etc.). This allows for equity among the teams. Also, each team is REQUIRED to spend 84% of the cap every year.

Either weekly or bi-weekly as stated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Most teams pay a player's entire salary through the 17 weeks of the regular season. If a team makes the playoffs, the contract doesn't extend for those games. Instead, each player is paid a set amount for each game, set forth by the CBA. The pay increases for each round a team advances. Players' contracts often times have incentives built-in so that if his team reaches the playoffs or the Super Bowl, he is awarded a bonus.
